Primary Transition

Advent is always an exciting time of year at All Saints, as we await and prepare for the birth of our Lord. This special liturgical season began with the whole school attending Advent services which included a Year 7 singing group and a reflective drama performed by our talented Year 10 students based on material from CAFOD.

Building on our friendship with our Huddersfield and Halifax feeder primary schools all Year 6 students were invited to an 'Advent Morning at All Saints to mark Advent in a special way. 250 of our primary school friends came, ready for singing practice as they arrived.

We chose to focus on the theme of 'Hope'; our hopes for ourselves, our families and the world. Following an introduction to Advent all students took part in a workshop in which they made a creative Advent Wreath to take back to their primary school.
Following this community activity the students enjoyed a festive biscuit and a drink before starting their Advent service. Students listened to the hopes of the Old Testament people and how these hopes were fulfilled in Jesus. The drama centred around a family in Pakistan who had lost everything in the recent floods. It showed how they lost hope and then were given hope with the help of others supporting the work of CAFOD. The link was made between our hopes for the coming of the Messiah at Christmas and the message he brought of hope for a better world.
Each primary school was given an advent candle as a gift from our school to theirs: these were blessed by our College Chaplain Fr. Fitzgerald and presented to all of the primary schools present. As our school students waved goodbye they gave each student a special Advent prayer card to remember their visit.
All Saints would like to thank all the students and staff who came to mark Advent with us and we hope to see you again soon!
