Black History Month

On October 17th All Saints Catholic College celebrated Black History Month. It wasn't just any celebration! We hosted an evening of food, drinks, dancing. African drumming, Roll of Honour and great guest speakers. Everyone was welcome. We sold tickets in school before the evening or you could pay at the door on the day. The hall was full!

We had a display of carnival costumes and some of the students even wore them. Our very own College Gospel Choir sang and they sounded amazing. The food was Caribbean and was cooked by a member of staff in our school !it was delicious and went down well with everyone!

It took a lot of time and work to prepareall the things for the evening; we had to make tickets and sell them; we went into assemblies each morning, and met each week to plan. We co-ordinated the drums and the dancing, getting people involved and making phone calls to the all the guest speakers. It was a good experience for us to learn how to plan and manage events with the help of the staff especially Mrs Manifold and Ms Nimrod.

A Roll of Honour was clone by our students including Michael Jackson, Tara Banks, Bob Marley, Oprah Winfrey. Dad, Granddad, Martin Luther King, Barack Obama, Ray Charles and Nelson Mandela. Mrs Manifold also prepared her part on Lenny Henry.

One of our past student Sharone Buckle came in to talk about her experience she had at All Saints and how well she did in her GCSEs despite losing her Mum just before them. She was a great inspiration to us and it was amazing to hear her share her experience with all the people at the evening. It was heartfelt by all of us.

We also were inspired by Barrington .... the owner of Discovery Bay restaurant in town. It was good to hear him speak of his finding his talents and skills and making the most of them.

One of our current students, Darius McCloud, talked about the experience he had in Italy and Czech Republic when he went to compete in the Athletics competition against other young people. Overall it was an amazing, fantastic and fabulous evening and thank you to all the staff and students who were involved, helping and organizing the event: all the guest speakers and to all the people that came to the evening.
